امروزه با وجود لغت نامه های قوی و امکان سرچ در موتورهای جستجوی، به نظر می رسد که ترجمه زبانهای مختلف به یکدیگر، علی الخصوص ترجمه فارسی به انگلیسی و بالعکس مسئله راحتی شده باشد. با این حال، یک سری موارد ریز و درشت در حین ترجمه فارسی به انگلیسی وجود دارد که رعایت آنها تفاوت بین یک مترجم خوب و عالی با مترجم متوسط یا ضعیف را مشخص می کند. در این مقاله به معرفی بعضی از نکات و اشتباهات رایج بین مترجمین با تأکید بر  ترجمه فارسی به انگلیسی پرداخته می شود. لازم به ذکر است که این لیست بر اساس ایرادات موردی مترجمین تهیه شده و به مرور زمان به روز رسانی خواهد شد. 

توجه: منظور از آوردن نکات زیر آموزش گرامر انگلیسی نیست. مطالب زیر بر اساس تجربه کاری مترجمین فارسی به انگلیسی و ویراستارهای ادیت95 تهیه شده است. 

1. فونت Times New Roman به سایز 10 و فاصله سطر 1 انتخاب شود.

2. کپشن ها زیر شکل و بالای جدول با فرمت Fig. 1 و Table 1 آورده شوند. توجه: در زیر شکل یا بالای جدول، نقطه بعد از شماره شکل و جدول (Fig. 1; Table 1) فراموش نشود. زمانی که به چند شکل یا جدول در داخل متن اشاره می شود، از فرمت زیر استفاده شود:

  Figs. 1 and 2 present ...

Tables 2 and 3 provide information about ...

3. هنگام لیست کردن آیتمها، کاما قبل از and فراموش نشود. مثال:

The soil types used in this study include silt, sand, and gravel.

4. واحدها از قبیل متر، کیلومتر، سانتی متر و غیره به صورت اختصاری نوشته شوند (m, km, cm, min, h, s, etc.)

5. برای علامت درجه سانتی گراد از این نماد استفاده شود: ?. در ضمن، تمامی واحدها با فاصله از عدد آورده شوند به غیر از درجه سانتی گراد و درصد. مثال: 50?, 60%, 30 kg, 10 mL, etc.

6. جمله با عدد شروع نمی شود.

7. از نوشتن اعداد واحد دار به صورت حرف اجتناب شود:

8. در جملات دو بخشی که با since شروع شده است، در شروع بخش دوم از آوردن so اج شود.

مثال:

	Since diesel or any petroleum products have not been contaminated in this area yet, so the samples taken from the soil of the area are free of petroleum contamination.

9. به استفاده صحیح حروف اضافه  which در جملات دقت شود.

	.The house  which   was completed in 1856 was famous for its huge marble staircas
صحیح	The house, which was completed in 1856, was famous for its huge marble staircase.

10. به استفاده صحیح و تفاوت کلمات because و due to دقت شود. این دو کلمه علیرغم تشابهاتی که دارند، یکسان نیستند. در اکثر، مواقع due to در مواردی که بار منفی دارد استفاده می شود. مثلاً در مورد آمار بالای چاقی:

Today, heart attack cases are increasing due to the obesity problem.

در مقابل، اصطلاح because of، حالت کلی تری داشته و علت یک مسئله را بیان می کند و در هر دو حالت جملات با بار منفی و مثبت می توان از آن استفاده کرد.

11. در استفاده از مخفف  (شامل acronyms  و abbreviations) قانون کلی زیر رعایت شود:

اصطلاحات دارای مخفف ابتدا به صورت کامل و به همراه مخفف داخل پارانتز آورده شوند. در موارد بعد به آوردن مخفف اکتفاء شود. مثال:

Uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) is a fundamental parameter in engineering studies. UCS is obtained through laboratory and in situ experiments, which involve high costs.

توجه: از آنجایی که چکیده هر مقاله، به عنوان یه مقاله مستقل شامل خلاصه ای از کل مقاله در نظر گرفته می شود، آوردن کامل اصطلاح به همراه مخفف در ابسترکت هم ضروری است. 

12. در استفاده از اصطلاحاتی مثل in order to یا in addition زیاده روی نشود. هر چقدر تعداد کلمات در متن کمتر باشد بهتر است. به عنوان مثال، به جای اصطلاح in order to بهتر است از to و به جای in addition از کلماتی مثلی also، additionally، و یا besides استفاده شود. 

13. به استفاده صحیح جملات مجهول و معلوم توجه شود.

14. از استفاده کلمات و اصطلاحات غیررسمی مثل a lot of, lots of, و غیره اجتناب شود. به جای آن می توان از کلماتی مثل many, numerous, several, a large number و غیره برای کلمات قابل شمارش، و much و plenty of برای کلمات غیرقابل شمارش استفاده کرد.

15. در استفاده صحیح از اصطلاح on the other hand دقت شود. طبق تعریف، این اصطلاح برای مقایسه دو موضوع، دیدگاه، یا حقیقت به کار برده می شود و نباید با اصطلاح هایی مثل also, in addition, moreover و غیره که قید ربط هستند اشتباه شوند.

16. به استفاده صحیح از کلمه although دقت شود. در اکثر مواقع این اصطلاح در جملات دو بخشی به کار برده می شود. در بخش دوم جمله از کلمه but به هیچ وجه استفاده نشود.

کلمه while در جملات دو بخشی به کار برده می شود که می تواند در اول یا وسط جمله آورده شود. مثال:

	According to energy statistics, the annual growth of energy consumption in 2018 was 2.3% in the world [1]. While, in Iran, it was 5 to 8% according to these statistics.
صحیح	According to energy statistics, the annual growth of energy consumption in 2018 was 2.3% in the world [1], while in Iran, it was 5 to 8% according to these statistics.

عبارت as well as در وسط جمله آورده شده و بعد از آن فعل ing دار آورده می شود.

19. در مقالات انگلیسی اختصار نویسی مجاز نیست مگر در بخشهای خاصی مثل نقل قول از مصاحبه شوندگان. بنابر این، عباراتی مثل they"re و it"s باید به ترتیب به صورت they are و it is نوشته شوند. همچنین کلمه cannot گاهاً به اشتباه can not یا can"t نوشته می شود، که هر دو مورد غلط است.

20. به طول مناسب جملات دقت شود. طبق، پیشفرض نرم افزار Microsoft Office Word، حداکثر طول مجاز جمله 60 کلمه است. به منظور اصلاح جملات طولانی، می توان آنها را تقسیم کرد. مثال:

(2021) examined different window configurations including the glass and glazed using Design Builder software in different cities and climates of Iran, the results of  which show the use of multi-glazed windows with argon gas for optimization will improve the cooling and heating performance in different climatic conditions of Iran [28].
